Instrument Loops

This option lets you place instrument loops in the P&ID.

Accessed from the Instruments gallery.

Instrument Loops are functional definitions which have no physical component properties assigned to them. The Instrument Loop definitions deal with the operating and design conditions associated with the loop, such as material weights, operating function, design responsibility, etc.

When an instrument loop is placed, the Instrument Loop Tag Creation dialog displays listing properties for the instrument loop and a Discrete Field Mounted instrument to be placed on the loop. Within this dialog, additional instruments can be added to the loop.

Instrument Loop Placement

Upon selection of an Instrument Loop, the Instrument Loop Tag Creation dialog displays allowing you to define/edit properties for both the Instrument Loop and the Instruments to be placed. By default, the tag creation dialog will list three discrete instruments that can be placed with every new instrument loop. There are options on the Instrument Loop Tag Creation dialog to Add or Remove instruments or components before placement. After defining the tag numbers and properties for the loop and instrument, press OK to close the Tag Creation dialog. Normal instrument placement procedures are then used to place the instrument.

Select an Instrument Loop

To select an individual instrument which is part of a loop, you must click on the instrument twice. If you click on the instrument once, the entire loop will be selected. You can view this in the Element Info dialog, which will list all of the instruments and the instrument loop at the top of the dialog. Once you select the instrument a second time, then only that instrument's properties will display in the Element Info dialog.
